Week 25 ~ seas and a song

All of these images were taken by different photographers across the globe at the same moment, Wednesday, May 13th at 10:19 a.m.

Did you ever hear that song, from Sesame Street, which goes with the game where you have to figure out which one of four objects doesn't fit the category? It goes "One of these things is not like the others..." That's what I thought of when I put this week's mosaic together. From Cory, RC, and Aziza we have color galore. From me (Rachel), well, not so much.

RC, in Los Angeles, found herself in a beautiful deep blue sea of Freshman Comp papers, grading and commenting, and nearly missed the moment. Lucky for us she didn't. I could get lost in that blue.

Cory, in Connecticut, found herself amongst a sea of boxes. Taking giant leaps lately, having been recently married and now preparing for a move to Maryland, she is ripping through chapter after chapter in the book of her life. I have a feeling it's turning out to be a very long, very interesting book.

Aziza, in Kuwait, found herself in a sea of kids at the school's annual concert, creeping up near the stage, trying to get a good capture.

Rachel, in Seattle, really didn't find herself in a sea of anything, as is consistent with the theme of her photo being the outlier in the group. Instead, she found herself, umm…. well…. in the bathroom, hanging out, doing stuff. tee hee.

We missed Kristin this week, but she will be back next week. A dedicated and creative mom of three, I'm amazed that she is able to participate as often as she does.

Week 24

All of these images were taken by different photographers across the globe at the same moment, Tuesday, May 5th at 9:43 a.m.

nurturing ourselves and others

Clockwise from top right

Kristin, in Maine, reflects on buckets of rain and the song it reminds her of, in a moment focused being.

Rachel, in Seattle, takes a moment to notice, to absorb, the scene of father nurturing son with his time, attention, and touch during an otherwise busy weekday morning.

RC, in Los Angeles, was not in Los Angeles this week. She attended her beloved daughter's (Cory) wedding in Connecticut. Here, she and daughter spend a treasured moment together, cameras in hand, on a sort of photographic scavenger hunt for an interesting looking "Q".

Cory, in Connecticut, and her mom (RC) spend some quality time in common creative pursuits. Cory is protecting her camera in the rain, shooting down her body, at her feet, which stand on a low wall. Just married and enjoying a visit from mom, the moments where plentiful and happy.

Aziza, in Kuwait, champion mom that she is, just back from the doctor's with medicine for her young daughter, who suffered some aftereffects of a high fever.

the monumental and the everyday

From left to right

RC in Los Angeles, was dreaming and doodling, about a long awaited day soon to come.

Kristin, in Maine, celebrates flukishly warm weather with open wide windows, and catches this stunning scene of dancing curtains, happy in their waking from a winter's nap.

Aziza, in Kuwait, helps little minds, alive with spring fever, with homework and such earth bound tasks.

Cory, in Connecticut, attends to the making of her wedding dress. She, beloved Dean, (and a handful of family members) came together on May 3, 2009 to be joined, officially, after many years of love and adventure together, in marriage. My (Rachel) cup runith over with love and joy for them.

Rachel, in Seattle, took in the simple pleasure of food made by someone else (some amazing vegetarian Chinese takeout).

living these lives

(From top to bottom, left to right)

Aziza , in Kuwait, prepares for her sister's birthday with some yummy looking mini cakes.

Kristin, in Maine, enjoys a rare moment of an absolutely quiet house while son and daughter (seen here) nap after a rambunctious day in their first spring sun. The sigh of relief from Kristin is almost audible. "Ahhhhhh"

Rachel, in Seattle, finds herself alone, in one of her favorite places (public library), with time enough to ponder the names and dates on very old check out cards. What a rare thing for a mama.

RC, in Los Angeles, is cryptic about her moment, and as a consequence must be quoted "something old, something new... dried roses from my hubs shrubs, petals plucked from pleasant surprises, and valentine's dozens dried... gathered to make something new *)"

Cory, in Connecticut, and fiancée splurge on Starkbucks while on a marathon errands outing.

Week 21 ~ Keep on keeping on.

There were quite a few folks who missed the moment this week, just as I did last week, and I wanted to say to them, from the bottom of my heart, “Thank you! Thank you for doing what you do.  Thank you for teaching, for counseling, for mothering others. Thank you for doing these things instead of stopping to take a photograph for this beloved, yet far less worthy project. The world would likely continue to spin without you, but I can’t imagine it would be worth the trip.”

Week 21 mosaic copy

This week’s moment caught us all at a nourishing break in our day.

 fueling up and carrying on

Cory, in Connecticut, prepares for a spicy lunch with her fiancé. Left-over Szechuan tofu. Yum. Wait, was it the food that was spicy I wonder?

Rachel, in Seattle, breaks for lunch after a hideous day of searching for her wallet after missing a flight for it's absence. (Side note: A week later, it's still missing. We've mourned and moved on. Damn, I loved that wallet!!)

Aziza, in Kuwait, takes a moment with a cup of tea and herself, before her children arrive home from school. Unhappy with the level of education they get at school, Aziza takes it upon herself to make sure her children are learning all they can and need to when they are with her. As any home-schooling-mom could likely tell us, it's a big job. Bravo Aziza!!

Familiar Rhythms

Cory, in Connecticut, returns to the sea, to tidepools, where sun, new seaweed growth and displaced subtidal species brought by recent storms, greet her, as if they were old friends.

RC, in Los Angeles, was setting up some shots for her ritual bookmark making. A gift for herself.

Aziza, in Kuwait, catches a playful moment with her children, taking advantage of their annual spring break, in a mall.

Kristin, in Maine, noticed, for the first time, the beautiful light dancing around a vintage glass, a piece of loveliness in her possession for years.

Week 19 ~ Beloved

All of these images were taken by different photographers across the globe at the same moment, Friday, April 3, 2009 at 10:22 a.m. week 19 mosaic copy

Beloved Moments

Rachel, in Seattle, sleeps an illness away, wakes at the "moment alarm" and snaps away at her nightstand. Then, back to sweet slumber. (Book = Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by beloved author, Barbara Kingsolver)

RC, in Los Angeles, is surprised by a belated birthday gift of books published in 1923 (pocket Short Stores by De Maupassant & The Sidewalks of New York - booklet put out by the hotels of the time) from a friend. A beloved passion supported by a beloved somebody.

Kristin, in Maine, communes with a beloved photographic subject conjuring thoughts of balance, meditation, smoothness, & stone.

Cory, in Connecticut, prepares a gift, for her beloved mother-in-law, of photos for a digital frame. Ever the collaborator, Cory orchestrates the effort of herself and three brothers for the benefit on one loved mother.

Aziza, in Kuwait, collects beloved moments of photographic genius into a portfolio. Great things are sure to come of this development.
