Week 52 ~ Celebrate

Given that this week is, in the least, a milestone (at most a conclusion) for our humble moment project, it seemed fitting to focus on the concept of Celebration. As we take a moment to pause and consider the future of this project, Cory and I continue to be overwhelmed by the outpouring of positive feedback regarding everyone’s experiences participating in and following the moments. I think I can speak for both of us when I say that we are astounded, thrilled and deeply honored that our little experiment has touched so many others.

Week by week, moment by moment, we have grown as a community, as a presence in our own and in each other’s lives. We have grown as artists, as photographers, as human beings wishing to take every opportunity to notice, be in and celebrate the moment. We do this because we know there is no certainty in the future, no clear way to exist in the past . We know that this moment, every moment, is the most important one. We know that we thrive in the moment, we become our own greatest selves in the complete and utter absorption in the present moment. Sharing this awareness, helping each other to remember, to embrace it, is our gift to each other.

I love to idea that I always am pushed out of my comfort zone with themes / projects / assignments, and that this project would do the same for others. I really love seeing how differently the themes are interpreted by all of the talented photographers who participate each week. Whether I play along or not, I always feel like a winner here.

for one tiny moment in the week,
"I get my art on". I get my art on, and it's my moment alone with my creative outlet, and then suddenly it's shared with these wonderous women, occasionally a guy or two, mothers, sisters, students, grannies, teachers, etc, etc, from all over the world. And in that moment, we are a part of something special. We are connected by our passion for the little things that only photographer's see and understand and love. And that, is special.

Over this last year I have cherished all of our Moments--for what they meant to ourselves as growing individuals and the connections that we found by sharing these moments with others.

The human touch, week 50

I don't know what it is, but there's something about a photo that has hands or feet in the shot...

a certain human element that we can all relate to...

who we are...

what we love.

Feet photos are easy to relate to.

We all look down to see where we are going or where we have been.

We can measure time in these photos by the changing seasons, by how much we or our little ones have grown.

Photos of hands are connections to the world we live in.

What we are holding or gesturing is a story in itself, tangible and made real by capturing it in the moment.

Week 49 : ant's eye view

Week 47 ~ lines, lines, everywhere lines!

On Thursday, October 15th at the moment of 1:51 p.m. we stopped what we were doing and looked for lines. Lines are all around us, forming patterns rich and interesting. From different perspectives we found lines looking down from the sky, looking up at the sky, hidden in text, memories of birthdays, and covering our friends and loved ones. We chose to not take the world around us at face value and look for intrinsic patterns within the surfaces and shapes around us.

Week 45 ~ reflections

Week 43 – Macro - Thursday, September 17th at 6:03 p.m.

Technically macro photography is quite simple and straightforward.

For those who have a profound love for it, it is everything that is

beautiful in the world and too often goes unnoticed. The world that

exists in the texture of a dog’s fur, or the microcosm of a dew drop, or

in the pattern of wood grain be infinitely fascinating. In these small

worlds we might find something we are looking for in the larger one.

Maybe that something is “self”, or understanding, or metaphor, or just

a minuteness that might be a bit easier to comprehend and embrace.

Week 42 ~ Self ~ Wednesday, September 9th at 8:57 a.m.

Cory I admit I often find it difficult to turn the camera around and point it at myself. I'm so much more comfortable behind the lens, tinkering behind the scenes. But here I am. Refreshed after a morning bike ride and pampered by all the delightful smelly products in the shower (Lobsterman's 3-in-1 soap = awesome!), but still in need of coffee. The reflection in my eye is my laptop buzzing on and the morning light pouring through my home office window through which I watched thunderclouds pass and sunshine melt its way through.

Rachel I am far from being comfortable with my own image. I never seem to recognize myself. It’s been getting better these past few years, as I’ve prodded myself to appear in photos with my son. Someday he will want to know what I looked like when he was young, and I too. For this self portrait, I could only manage a little over a quarter view of my face. I’m emerging, slowly, from my discomfort with my likeness.

RCIf the pen is mightier than the sword, then how powerful is the dry erase marker? Preparing for the day of teaching, I note that the words are the focus of what I do... and so, I present the word-maker as the self portrait

Rachel waking my husband from a late afternoon nap.

Cory Ironically (maybe) I could point my camera in any direction and shoot something

green. Green plants, green trees, green water (the river), green carpet, green splashes in nearly every bit of my decor. Heck, I was wearing a green shirt and didn't even think to take a picture of that. So, this is my lovely bike casting a green shadow on my green rug with some green carpet and green sandals to boot.

RC when red stands out so much more on the graded page... green seems so friendly...

Cosi! I was in the car driving home from running some errands. Grabbed my

point/shoot for a quick shot out the window. It wasn't until I got home & looked at it that I realized how much it reminded me of when I was 13, looking out the car window and seeing the Midwest for the first time after having moved here. So much green compared to where I had lived in suburban NY.

moment, but someone came to buy a cucumber so I had to run outside. This is taken through our table, we have holes in it to move the umbrella according to where the sun is during the day.

Week 39 - windows

Whether we think of them as metaphoric portholes to a deeper understanding of the soul and the world,

or treat them as the literal objects of interest that they are, windows are ripe for photographic attention.

During week 39 (Thursday, August 20th at 11:17 a.m.) of our humble little project, we explored windows,

the world they let in, the life they frame, the light they filter, and the stories they inspire.

Aziza - was shooting a session with a sweet little girl in her tutu. With the light from the window

behind her, she positively glowed with childish delight.

Kristin – quiet, still, breathe

RC - I sequestered myself in a room with no distractions, including windows, in order to finish grading.

The pictured stairwell window was photographed as I was on a break-- tempting me...

Cory – finds a wondrous world every morning as she peers out her basement window to greet the day

and be greeted with beauty.

Rachel - by the light through her kitchen window she noticed a drama unfolding between a glass, a

counter and the purest light of a warm sun.

Rachel Wedding Ring and Elopement Necklace.

We eloped nine months before our wedding, to the Oregon Coast. Between the airport and our cabin we stopped to buy hubs a silver temporary ring (the one I got for him prior to the trip was the wrong size). I spotted this charm. Two hearts nested together. It felt perfect. Two souls, binding further together in a common goal.. a life well lived. It was a beautiful, wild, stormy, winter occasion. It was perfect.

Cory This is all I wear; all I ever need to wear

As it was, these are the only decorations I was wearing. My engagement ring was custom made by a designer on the coast of northern California in the Redwood forest, where we lived at the time of our engagement. My blue titanium wedding band matches my husbands, both custom made by a seller on Etsy. I used to wear toe rings, anklets, necklaces and even a tongue ring for a while...but now this is all I wear; all I ever need to wear

Aziza I was out shopping. I was not wearing any jewelry but I did buy these earrings. when the moment

struck I stopped sat down, took it out of my bag and clicked.

shakes their heads!

Cosi! * creative jewelry moment * I made this bracelet for myself a couple of years ago to remind me that I'm

an artist. You know, sort of so I wouldn't forget to "create". In the midst of homeschooling my kids and being a wife and mother priorities shift and my wants and desires have to go on hold until I have me (photography) time. When the moment arrived I was looking over my new to me brownie I picked up at an antique store. Really would love to put film in it some time!

zen granny * This along with earings are about the only jewelry I ever wear. My husband Mike had this

ring made for me many, many years ago by a guy in Scituate, MA. The stone is Mexican fire agate and it usually reflects light perfectly. I was at a family party or I would have taken more time to get a better shot with light reflecting, but hey, it was Saturday night after all!

first i received the small heart, from my lovely man as a birthday present. a few years later he gave the second heart, with a tibetan wish for happiness/health to all living creatures. my mum gave the star, i love stars!.... finally my collection was completed when we lived in Thailand... an om, a symbol very important to me.

Week 37: Perspective

perspective is generally thought of as either a construct that describes a person’s unique psychological state given a particular circumstance, or as a physical orientation of objects in space. In the realm of photographic discovery, both are apropo.

Photography (and art in general) is all about exploration and representation of one’s psychological perspective. We snap a photo, alter it, dress it up or down, and otherwise mangle it because we feel we have to.. because there is something inside of us that sees something in the photographed scene that we feel must be unleashed, experienced, shared. Whether it’s due to nostalgia or a yearning for some future state, we are all drawn to particular subject matter because of who we are, were and want to be (or don’t want to be). We all share in this fervor, and yet are unique in our particular experience of it.

This is why there is an ever expanding amount of space for art, why there is room for so many creative souls to share their work and passions. Nothing we know of can be as varied as the human mind, the human perspective. When applied to reflections on living, reactions to others’ lives, there in no end to the variety of visual representations of perspective.

When we begin to push ourselves to previously undiscovered methods or subjects in art, we are not only challenging the status quo of our body of work, we also challenge our perspective, our vision, our take on the world. Sometimes this is frightening, or disheartening. Sometimes it is exhilarating.

This week, we challenged ourselves, and our fellow momenters, with just such a task. Change your perspective. Photographers were asked to (as described by the ever imaginative Cory):

Take a picture from a different point of view. Put your camera on

the floor, over your head, or imagine life through the eyes of your

cat, refrigerator, coffee table, street curb. Think of a perspective

that you have never takena picture from and use it to get a

creative shot.

Week 36 – Friday July 31st at 12:11 - take your seats please

This week’s assignment: Take a picture of the chair you are sitting in, the one you last sat in, chairs at the restaurant you are having lunch at, the chairs in your classroom, the one you spend all day working in, or even your favorite chair, bench, stool, recliner, etc.

If there is one thing I have learned from this project it’s that no subject should be overlooked as fodder for camera play nor for philosophical musing. “Take a seat” can seem like such a simple theme. But really, focusing on these everyday trappings of our lives act as windows into our worlds, our habits, our daily gestures which make up the being in our existences. So many moments are spent in these seats. So much of life can pass by while focused on our lunch, paying bills, sitting at a laptop. Having any reason to stop for just one moment and take in the simplicity of our lives is a gift. Here we share these gifts with each other, and I am so privileged to be amongst them.

Another, no less important, lesson has occurred to me. The simplest, most straightforward theme makes the most room for creativity and reflection. The evidence for my thesis? See below.

** I was fiddling around with my new (to me) Kodak Brownie Hawkeye camera, trying to open it up and clean it up a bit. My mother found this at a thrift store in Idaho while she was on vacation a few weeks ago and picked it up for me (along with one for herself). Who knows where this little camera has been, but since it has found a new purpose as a TTV viewfinder it has traveled from Idaho to Oregon to California and flown with me back across the country to Maryland.

To me, there is something so elegant, poetic almost, in the way that words are defined. It' is as if you can feel the mind that toiled over the exact words used to render the most comprehensive and yet efficient meaning possible. There is art there. I feel it. So, I hope you won’t judge me too harshly for relying on the well crafted words of others to explore this week’s theme.

Thursday, July 16th at 3:49 p.m.

Rachel: A new game ----- I always thought that kids figured out how to play pretend on their own. I never knew I was going to teach this skill. The other night, somehow, we got on the kick of playing “putting baby to bed”. He stripped baby, bathed baby, diapered baby, clothed baby, put baby in bed, put blanket over baby, read a story to baby, kissed baby goodnight, turned off the light, came back when baby asked for help with blanket, left again, came when baby woke up in the morning, and took baby out to the living room to watch “Go Diego Go&” as we do every morning. It took off from there in the direction of two babies being bathed and carted around the house in a big dump truck. I know my hubs was jealous. A hot tub and huge machinery all in one? What's not to love.

Cory: I was walking around the Capitol area of Washington, D.C. and happened upon a farmers' market. It was one that I've never been to but also the icing on the cake of a wonderful day of exploration and knowledge.

Week 31 ~ warmth

Securely nestled in the arms of long days filled with sun and perhaps a slower more languid pace, those of us in the Northern Hemisphere are keenly aware of the season, and the warmth we’ve so long been hoping for. It is in celebration of that awareness that some of us focus our lenses on warm colors. For those of us in the Southern Hemisphere, focus on the warmth of the colors around us will, perhaps, bring with it a bit of comfort against the cold days.

A little bit about warm color:

Warm colors rev us up and get us going. The warmth of red, yellow, or orange can create excitement or even anger. Warm colors convey emotions from simple optimism to strong violence, tend to evoke boldness, and express warmth, comfort, excitement and energy . In nature, warm colors represent change as in the changing of the seasons or the eruption of a volcano. Warm colors are those that tend to advance in space so that a red room feels smaller and more intimate than a blue room.

Given that week 30’s moment occurred on a Friday it seemed only appropriate that our minds be turned toward thoughts of relaxation. For many of us we the term seemed to be closely related to the comfort and sanctuary of our beds and of loved ones. Others found relaxation in the ritual of food and drink, while others still found slack in the focusing on objects and light. Whatever our interpretation, or yours, I think we find that it’s a task worthy of our attention, our devotion, as often as we can, if only for a moment at a time.

Kristin - “my bedroom, glass of lemonade in a mason jar, a new to me book waiting, and newly thrifted vintage sheets on a freshly made bed. “

Rachel - “My son was blowing bubbles and I thought... what it would be to float... just float... in a moment. So, I did. “

Cory – “I had just curled up on my favorite blanket with one of my favorite snacks - DARK chocolate covered pretzel twists from Trader Joe's. Oh, yum. Sorry, I didn't save any... “

Week 29 - Grounded

It's oh so easy to feel adrift, disconnected, unmoored, for any of us. Tempted as I am to say that it's a symptom of the current political and economic atmosphere, I think it can happen at any time in our lives, at any time in the world's history. We get busy, we get obligated to people and tasks that are not unworthy but can lure us away from our foundation, our sincerest sense of being.

If this week's theme "grounded" is metaphoric of anything it's a visual representation of what "the moment" project is all about. Simple, in the moment, noticing, being, reflecting, grounding us in our lives, has always been the point.

I'm (Rachel) no stranger to feeling unmoored and adrift. I find it is a more common state of being for me than any other and maybe that is how this project came to be. There are times I push it away, moan silently about the work and time it takes, drag my feet, emotionally kick and curse… but I know I need it and that the work, the effort, the dedication even when it's not easy, is grounding. I need that in whatever form it comes. And, when I can see clearly, when I've been grounded and slowed to a pace that allows me to hear, I am educated. I am taught lesson upon lesson that culminate to a growing understanding of how to live a good life. For that I am in awe, with humble gratitude.

Week 28 ~ Texting

This week's optional theme had photographers focused on text, in any form. From Starbucks' cups to garbage trucks, from PTA meetings to Foreigner concerts, from bath time to coffee time to the exact moment's time, our group found creative ways to reflect on & share their worlds through the text found around them. It's a simple part of life that can easily go unnoticed yet also be so telling about place and lifestyle, routine and adventure, family, occupation, even love.

Week 27 ~ Finding Beauty

As this project continues to grow, we have decided to up the ante this week by adding an optional theme to consider when the moment strikes: find the most beautiful thing around you. The most wonderful part of this week was that each photographer did find beauty and in so many different ways. Be it in comfort, love, memories, aesthetics, or peace… beauty abounded! This serves as a reminder that we are indeed surrounded by beauty at any given moment.

Cory (Maryland) was commuting back home from visiting art museums in Washington, D.C. She had just sat down as the moment was about to occur and searched for the most beautiful thing around her (besides her husband in the next seat) and zoomed in over the heads of the other commuters in the bus to snap a shot of the National Museum of the American Indian.

Kristin (Maine) was found in a quiet house (a real blessing with 3 children!). The most beautiful things to her when the moment struck were napping down the hall. Knowing her son was a sound sleeper, she snuck into the room he was sleeping captured the peaceful calm of this moment. Beauty has blessed her in many forms this time!

Aziza (Kuwait) was found in her bedroom when the moment occurred. Looking for the most beautiful thing around her, her eyes rested on her book collection. To her, this was the most beautiful thing in the room. What beauty those bindings are and the treasures those pages contain!

RC (California) was planning for summer knitting projects and playing with ideas and beautiful yarn from... centuries... of collecting. The most beautiful thing at the moment was a trinket of a memory - a small heart panel for a sweetheart sweater that she started long ago.

Rachel, in Seattle, settled for a moment in a new park, where pretty white fluffies drifted down from trees onto the grass, wondering if this neighborhood might be home soon.

Aziza, in Kuwait, props her son up on a chair for Bench Monday (a flickr group gaining much momentum), which usually passes her by before she realizes it. This week, she remembered and got to participate. Such a clever idea.

Kristin, in Maine, aids in and witnesses a little girl's dream come true, in the form of a perfect pink tutu.

Week 25 ~ seas and a song

Did you ever hear that song, from Sesame Street, which goes with the game where you have to figure out which one of four objects doesn't fit the category? It goes "One of these things is not like the others..." That's what I thought of when I put this week's mosaic together. From Cory, RC, and Aziza we have color galore. From me (Rachel), well, not so much.

RC, in Los Angeles, found herself in a beautiful deep blue sea of Freshman Comp papers, grading and commenting, and nearly missed the moment. Lucky for us she didn't. I could get lost in that blue.

Cory, in Connecticut, found herself amongst a sea of boxes. Taking giant leaps lately, having been recently married and now preparing for a move to Maryland, she is ripping through chapter after chapter in the book of her life. I have a feeling it's turning out to be a very long, very interesting book.

Aziza, in Kuwait, found herself in a sea of kids at the school's annual concert, creeping up near the stage, trying to get a good capture.

Rachel, in Seattle, really didn't find herself in a sea of anything, as is consistent with the theme of her photo being the outlier in the group. Instead, she found herself, umm…. well…. in the bathroom, hanging out, doing stuff. tee hee.

We missed Kristin this week, but she will be back next week. A dedicated and creative mom of three, I'm amazed that she is able to participate as often as she does.

Week 21 ~ Keep on keeping on.

There were quite a few folks who missed the moment this week, just as I did last week, and I wanted to say to them, from the bottom of my heart, “Thank you! Thank you for doing what you do. Thank you for teaching, for counseling, for mothering others. Thank you for doing these things instead of stopping to take a photograph for this beloved, yet far less worthy project. The world would likely continue to spin without you, but I can’t imagine it would be worth the trip.”

Rachel, in Seattle, breaks for lunch after a hideous day of searching for her wallet after missing a flight for it's absence. (Side note: A week later, it's still missing. We've mourned and moved on. Damn, I loved that wallet!!)

Unhappy with the level of education they get at school, Aziza takes it upon herself to make sure her children are learning all they can and need to when they are with her. Week 16

Aziza lets loose her creative soul while shooting some product shots for her sisters business and getting a few shots for herself.

RC revels in the blue sky and sunny disposition of Southern California.

Rachel, while stuck in traffic, draws a breath and takes note of where she has finally landed - the beloved city she she'd dreamed of living for so long.

Cory, mid step in her life, comes home, sets down the trappings of the day, and looking up, is taken instantly by the the wondrous beauty of the season soon to come.

Week 15 ~ nurturing and nourishing

Aziza nurtures the mom in her with a quick moment of yummy coffee indulgence (and perhaps the kid in her too, with this happy mug) just before the children are due home from school.

Sebrina takes a moment from the daily ritual of nourishing her brood to snap a photo of a delicious reminder that summer is on it's way.

Kristin nurtures her creative soul, and preserves her body from the cold outdoors, by seeking out photogenic objects indoors.

Cory nurtures both body and mind when she takes a stroll, to clear her mind, along the Sound, behind the Marine Science building (the building she works in) at the UConn Avery Point campus where they store giant bouys, anchors, chains, and a variety of oceanic science equipment. "These large spherical anchors always draw my eye and the timing couldn't be better for me to snap a shot of 'em."

RC takes a moment to notice, perhaps with a mind toward appreciation of it's nourishing potential, an abandoned apple appropriately left alone after rolling on the ground.

Rachel takes time to nurture herself, after weeks of moving prep, moving action, and caring for sick boys, in some time alone with her new view and some old projects (a scrapbook that is in perpetual progress, for one).

** We are saddened to note that this will be the last week Sebrina will be joining us in our weekly moments. As an artist, mamma of four, home-schooler, and woman on a path to great things, we find ourselves lucky to have had her participation for as long as we did. With so many hats on her beautiful head she must prioritize and dole out her time where best. Although she will be missed and the moment each week will be all the dimmer without her, we offer our warmest support and love to Sebrina in all her endeavors. And, we leave a welcoming door open for her to return, if ever the time feels right again. XO Sebrina ~ the momenters.**

Week Fourteen

All of these images were taken by different photographers across the globe at the same moment, Wednesday, February 25th at 8:12 a.m.

1.Ryan, our newest member, joins us from her Teacher's desk in freshman art. On this day everyone gets to work right away, setting a tone of calm and constructing the opportunity to partake of a favorite moment in teaching - the floating around the room, unnoticed, watching students being engaged.

2.Rachel finds the moment in her living room. After being woken early this morning by the trumpeting of fire trucks reporting to a false alarm in a neighboring apartment building, it's business as usual as she tries to jump start her brain with copious amounts of coffee, and the boy slides into the comfortable routine of morning cartoons.

3. Aziza begins her day filled with expectations of celebration and national pride. One of her country's (Kuwait) independence days, they have two, is the at the forefront. Green, red and white, along with images of their flag, will surround her this day.

Kuwait was threatened in the 19th century by the Ottoman Turks and various powerful Arabian groups, Kuwait sought treaty relationship with Great Britain for protection in January 1899, the ruler Sheikh Mubarak Al Sabah signed an agreement with the British Government.

Kuwait gained independence from the United Kingdom in 1961. So on 25th of February, Kuwait celebrates its Independence Day to mark the creation of Kuwait as an Independent nation. On this day, the national celebrations include public meetings and get-together, firework displays and a spirit of celebration that imbues every Kuwaiti Public buildings are illuminated on the occasion and Kuwaitis, young and old, wear their national dress to participate in the festivities.

Unfortunately we are the only country in the whole world that celebrates two Independence days and that is why:

In August 1990, Iraq attacked and invaded Kuwait, The seven month-long Iraqi occupation came to an end after a direct military intervention by United States-led forces. Nearly 750 Kuwaiti oil wells were set on fire by the retreating Iraqi army resulting in a major environmental and economic catastrophe. Kuwait's infrastructure was badly damaged during the war and had to be rebuilt. Kuwait was liberated from Iraq on February 26 1991 (a major coincidence:)) we celebrate both days 25 and 26 and both are national holidays.

4. Sebrina welcomes a sunny, light filled, hopeful day with a little photographic experimentation with reflection.

5. Cory, our rock, our dedicated and impassioned engine that could, takes a moment away from work to peer out her office window and take in the beauty that is the Long Island Sound. On this day, at this moment, the air is so clear that boats near the shore are visible and much peace is found in a glance out the window.

6. Kristin celebrates today, the annual anniversary of her birth, with a lovely soak in warm water and lavender. Not only is this a rare indulgence for the momma of three, it's a chance to commune with herself and with the mother which brings forth all living things, lavender and mommas included. Happy Birthday Kristin.

7. RC finds herself noticing, contemplating, immersed in child chalk drawings, and then reflecting on the simple things we miss sometimes when we forget to look.

Week Thirteen ~ Caught

Caught in action or in thought this week

Cory ~ was caught off guard when the moment snuck up on her as she worked at her laptop. Grabbing the camera and quickly snapping away she shot this photo of left over paint on her palette, from creating greeting cards.

Sebrina ~ caught sight of this little scene where her children had been playing tea party with some stuffed buddies.

RC ~ dealing with the special kind of stress that only teacher can understand, caught her breath and was anticipating the festivities of fat Tuesday, the feasting before Lent.

Kristin ~ was caught up in a moment of dreamy elsewhere-ness as she exited The Academy of Natural Sciences museum in Philadelphia, where she was on the run from the cold and snow in Maine with her family.

Aziza ~ took a step back and admired all the little moments caught in pixels and printed onto her first set of tiny moo cards.

Rachel ~ at a late lunch with her boys (hubby and son), caught the boy intently searching out the window on pier 54 for the last signs of the ferry boat cruising just out of sight. Boats are a new addition to his obsession over anything motorized or mechanical.

Week Twelve ~ wonder and majesty

Cory ~ catches a glimpse of the wonder and majesty of nature turning with time toward dark, in her computer screen. (She was working on her laptop and happened to notice, in it’s high gloss screen, the sneaky sunset brewing out the window behind her)

Sebrina ~ catches a glimpse of her son in the throws of the wonder and majesty of pure childhood joy. (She was scrambling to find her camera for “the moment” and happened to find Zander jumping on her bed)

Kristin ~ catches a glimpse of the wonder and majesty of love she feels for her husband, and sets it down on paper. ( This was a Valentine gift to her dear hubby, later to be tucked in a paper fortune cookie, for him.)

RC ~ catches a glimpse of the wonder and majesty of the tradition of celebrating love, every year on the same day, in the digital pixels that will be tokens of love for her loves. (She was working her creative magic with some Valentine greetings, and found the beauty in the pixels on her computer screen)

Aziza ~ catches the simple wonder and majesty in a perfect lavender rose. (She was inspired to do some flower shots by the romance of the season.)

Rachel ~ catches a glimpse of the wonder and majesty of exploration, of familiarity in a new place, in finding that home can be found so far from home. (She was driving around downtown Seattle, after an hours spent in blissful glee at the Seattle train station. The glee was held by her who found so many old and interesting things to photograph, and her son and hubby, who have a passion for trains.)

Rachel is in the middle of moving to the gorgeous and amazing Pacific Northwest so I (Cory) have assembled the mosaic for this week. Normally it is Rachel that is the artistic superstar running that end of our project and, now, after filling her shoes for a bit, I can truly appreciate the wonderful work she does. Here's to wishing her a safe move!

A moment of celebration. Whether it is the celebration of love, peace, beauty, or nature...we were all caught up in a moment where we could find joy. Some with the world, some all by our lonesome...but all connected by the Moment. I'm always thrilled how far apart we may be but how in sync we are without even knowing

RC ~ was in the middle of running cross-town errands but somehow found a moment of beauty and flora to sneak in among those of traffic and chaos.

Rachel ~ had a brief lull in the prelude to moving to another corner of the country and used the rare moment alone to reflect on all the changes, both great and small, that she’s seen in the process. A moment that brought her great joy.

Cory ~ was getting in touch with the peaceful solitude of nature in winter and celebrated World Wetlands Day by taking a hike at a local salt marsh.

Sebrina ~ had just come in from grocery shopping with an armload of Valentine’s Day chocolate Kisses that her children had convinced her to buy, about to sit down and enjoy them with tea.

Aziza ~ was trying to catch up on her reading (having fallen prey to the time-consuming amazement of the wonderful and artistic network of Flickr) since she didn't have the time to continue this book.

Kristin ~ was playing with her food and propped up some iconic Valentine’s Day candy hearts on her windowsill.

Once again there seems to be a trend this week, as if our lives are syncing up somehow. All of these photos represent spare moments amidst other activity, the moments of real life perhaps, the moments that are unplanned, uncelebrated, and all too often unnoticed. But not on this day, not in this moment.

It occurs to me that, like Sebrina’s blog theme this week, these photos are all about comfort. On a winter’s evening, with so much going on in the world and in our individual lives, comfort is welcomed, I’m sure, whenever, however, it presents itself.

Rachel ~ watches the news with her husband (something she has not done in years but finally feels optimistic enough to want to know what is happening in the world) while their son seeks a bit of attention, comfort too maybe, from his Daddy.

RC ~ finds busy, crocheting things to do with her nervous and worrisome hands

Kristin ~ finds comfort by candlelight, reveling in a love note sent by a friend. It reads "live. love. be astonished" Gentle reminders we can all appreciate and use.

Aziza ~ seeks out refuge and comfort in the intimacy of her bedroom after a long day Mama-ing four beautiful kids and fighting off a flu.

Sebrina ~ waits for her husband as he bathes and tucks his babes safely into bed for the night, whipping up a bit of warm liquid comfort for them both.

Cory ~ enjoys a delicious cup of warmth and comfort as a topper to her night’s meal.
